History
Before 1999, a small group of piping and drumming enthusiasts in the Southern Highlands occasionally came together for events such as Anzac Day. They approached Rod Parker, a well-known piper in Australia, to establish a pipe band. The Highlands Pipes and Drums were then formed and played publicly for the first time on Anzac Day in 1999. The organization is currently recruiting new members to build the band's numbers and maintain its presence in the community.
As a local community organization, The Highlands Pipes and Drums welcome people of all ages to join and offers lessons in piping and drumming for those who wish to learn. The band has participated in various competitions, including those held in Wollongong, Castle Hill, Mittagong, Canberra, and Manly. In addition to competitions, the band regularly performs at various events, such as Australia Day in Picton and Berrima, Anzac Day, and the Berry Celtic Festival. The band's dedication to performance and community involvement has been a testament to the members' commitment to the group's stability and growth.
